HR (Heavy Rigid) Constantmesh

Completing our HR (Heavy Rigid) Licence course using a truck with a Constantmesh or Roadranger gearbox will result in you getting an 'open' licence. With this licence You can drive LR, MR and HR trucks with automatic, synchromesh or constantmesh gearboxes.

ALL truck training and assessment will be conducted by our ABC Driving School trainers and assessors. Courses can be completed same day and certificates issued to successful candidates.

No RMS Truck Driving Test Required

RMS classifies HR truck as Any rigid motor vehicle with 3 or more axles and a GVM of more than 8 tonnes.

  • Any towed Trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM.
  • Ideal for interstate coach work, heavy haulage, demolition companies and agitators (concrete mixer/delivery trucks).

What you need to get your HR (Constantmesh) Licence

  • You need to have held a class C Licence (not including Learners) for two years or more. Second year of green P plates is acceptable.
  • Pass an RMS HR Knowledge Test ($45 RMS fee), pass an RMS Eyesight test and at that time ask for a CBA (Competency Based Assessment) Logbook and CBA guide book. ($27 RMS fee)
  • Contact ABC Driving School to book your 2 day HR Constantmesh course.
    Please have your Licence and Log Book with you when you call, as we require details from both in order to confirm the booking with the RMS computer.
  • A deposit is required to secure and confirm your booking.
  • This deposit will be deducted from your total course cost. This is nonrefundable if you cancel without 72 hours notice.
  • After successfully finishing the course, return to your local RMS and submit your certificate of completion for your upgraded Licence. ($27 RMS Fee).


  • MUST HAVE CURRENT Manual car (class C) driving experience.
  • NOTE: Red P1 and Green P Plate holders in their first year are not eligible to apply for a HR Licence.
